The new manager orientation program should be reduced from three consecutive days to one initial day for the remainder of the fourth quarter. This revision will allow Operations to fill several supervisory vacancies before the seasonal increase in production.

The current program covers company history, leadership expectations, reporting systems, performance management, conflict resolution, and employee development. Each subject is valuable. However, recent participants have reported difficulty distinguishing what they need to understand immediately from what will become useful after they have spent time in the role.

Proposed Revision

Beginning October 20, the initial orientation day will focus on four immediate responsibilities:

1. Maintaining a safe and functional work area
2. Understanding production expectations and escalation procedures
3. Conducting clear daily communication with the team
4. Knowing when and where to request assistance

The remaining material will be delivered through three follow-up sessions during each manager’s first 60 days. These sessions will address performance coaching, conflict management, workforce planning, and departmental strategy.

This approach will place managers in their assigned areas sooner without eliminating the broader development program. It will also give them time to understand the work itself before being asked to interpret every complexity surrounding it.

Implementation

Human Resources can revise the orientation schedule by October 13. Operations leaders should assign each new manager an experienced supervisor for the first two weeks and protect the time required for the follow-up sessions.

Please confirm by October 10 whether Operations can support the proposed mentoring assignments. Upon approval, Organizational Development will issue the revised schedule and materials the following week.
